To help alleviate overcrowding, the state of Indiana acquired a large section of land from the Grissom Air Force Base, located in north central Indiana for use as a new state correctional facility.  The Miami Correctional Facility was built in two phases for a total cost of $200 million.  Each phase consisted of 8 medium security housing units, a segregation unit, offender services building, and a prison industries building.  The campus also includes a central food service building, administration building, maintenance shop, and utilities building.  The facility is served with its own water tower and campus utilities.

Miami Correctional Facility currently has a capacity for more than 3,400 prisoners and uses sophisticated state-of-the-art technology and security systems.
